Costello Medical is a vibrant, friendly and rapidly growing agency providing medical communication and design services to a wide range of clients, including the world's most successful pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Our Design Division works closely with scientific colleagues and external clients across a wide range of projects involving the creative presentation of data, helping to communicate the benefits f pharmaceutical products and medical devices to patient gorups and medical professionals.
 
About the role
We are currently seeking two interns to work across front and back-end development. You are not required to have experience in both to be successful.
 
During your internship, you will be based in out Design Division, working closley with our graphic/digital designers and project managers to create engaging and interactive digital content for our clients. Examples include the development and testing of functional applications and features for our expanding digital portfoliol, creation of interactice contact for conferences and events and development of digital marketing material. The internship will allow you to gain hands-on experience, supporting the team through all stages of the project lifecycle.
 
We are keen to exend the range of digital deliverables we offer in-house and you should therefore be proactive with a willingness to learn and contribute innovative ideas towards the development of our service offerings.
 
You will typically be working on two to three projects at any one time. Interns receive one-to-one training on the technical aspects of the role and learn about project managment and effective communication with clients.
 
About you
Both roles require those with a problem-solving mindset and eagerness to work both independently and collaboratively to find solutions. You will ideally have strong analytical skills, alongside exceptional organisation and self-motivation. An enthusiasm for technology and high-quality development is a must.
 
Requirements for the Front-End Developer Internship:
  • 1-2 years experience, either gained through a relevant degree of work experience
  • Strong front-end development skills(e.g. HTLM5, CSS3 and JavaScript), including experience in implementing responsive designs
  • Awareness of UX/UI design
  • Familiarity with CMS platform (particullary WordPress)
  • A good understanding of CSS pre- and post-processors (e.g. Sass, Less, PostCSS) and familiarity with modern build tools (e.g. Webpack, Gulp)
  • Experience working with APIs
Although not essential for the role, knowledge of design software such as Sketch, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator would be an advantage.
 
Requirements for the Back-End Developer Internship:
  • A degree (minimum 2.1) in a quantitative discipline (a background in computer science is preferred but not essential)
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Jave, JS, PHP) would be prefference. However, applications familiar with other languages will also be considered.
  • A sound understanding of JavaScript including AngluarJS.
  • Experience in the creation and manageent of SQP databases.
  • Basic knowldge of front-end technologies.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (particularly WordPress).
  • Experience with Linux server management would be an advantage.
  • No previous experience in the scientific industry is required.
The stipend for interns is £1,400 per calander month and you will be entitled to statutory holiday.
 
The internship will run from September to December 2019 with the possibility of an extension or application to a permanent role thereafter.
