Job Description

Internship Title: WP Champion
 
Department: Schools & Colleges Engagement Team
 
Location: Remote working with travel to all ARU Campuses
 
Start Date: Monday 27th May

Duration: 12 weeks
 
Hours: 20hrs per week

Rate of pay: £12ph
 
Duties:
  • Support the implementation of Widening Participation (WP) Champions to the existing Student Ambassador scheme to act as role models for school / college students from WP backgrounds and support access to Higher Education, and specifically ARU.
  • To assist in the development of the schemes aims, including research on current WP groups, such as SEND, care leaver / experience, GTRSB, students from military families, BME students and white males.
  • To assist in the creation of assets, such as user guides, student life presentations, template evaluations, and other template materials that conform to ARU’s in-house brand and tone of voice.
  • To review existing assets and modify these for usage by WP Champions once in-post.
  • To lead on the creation of a communications plan to generate leads amongst current ARU students who are from WP backgrounds and launch this working with appropriate ARU teams.
  • To support in the recruitment, training, and induction of prospective WP Champions.
  • Develop a training day or session, to upskill WP Champions.
  • To support WP Champions in creating motivational and inspirational Student Life presentations, expressing their journey into HE and their career aspirations.
  • To support SCET with advertising role model opportunities to local schools / colleges with high numbers of WP students.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post and required within the scope of the internship.
Requirements:
  • Good IT Skills and proficient at Microsoft Office programs.
  • Public speaking skills or willingness to learn public speaking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding or lived experience of being in a WP group.
  • Interest in the education sector, widening access and participation, and student recruitment.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of the internship you will be able to demonstrate,
  • Knowledge of equality diversity and inclusion, student engagement, the UK education system.
  • Experience in marketing and communications, research, developing presentations and assets, and administration.
  • Skills in targeted recruitment, public speaking, organisation, planning, delivering training.
Project Deliverables:
  • The co-creation of a theory of change and evaluative procedure, with the interns’ remit relating to the research portion and creation of assets.
  • The creation of a WP Champion role description.
  • The creation of assets for WP Champions informed by research into existing IAG ARU’s brand e.g., student life talks.
  • The creation of a communications plan to generate leads amongst current ARU students including working with the marketing team to develop resources.
  • The creation of a communications plan to target schools and colleges in the local area with information about WP Champions as role models.
  • To have assisted in the training process of hiring WP Champions
